With backup power sources quickly depleting after the 1994 Northridge earthquakes, amateur radio operators hotwired solar modules from their personal emergency systems to keep a two-meter repeater operational and available to local emergency service agencies. The experience offered Siemens and SMRA an opportunity to configure a permanent solution independent power system to meet future needs.
