Detroit Edison And Siemens Solar Launch Phase Two Of Solarcurrents^®

CAMARILLO, Calif., October 27, 1997 -- Siemens Solar Industries (SSI) and the Detroit Edison Company announce the launch of the second phase of the utility´s award-winning renewable energy service program, SolarCurrents^®. Phase Two of SolarCurrents began October 21 in Southfield, Michigan with the dedication of a 26.4-kilowatt solar photovoltaic system.

Siemens Solar provided Detroit Edison with 420 high-performance solar modules which will supply an estimated 39,000 kilowatt-hours of solar-generated electricity annually. The system was designed and installed by Utility Power Group of Chatsworth, California.

In Phase Two of the SolarCurrents program, the Siemens Solar modules deliver electricity to Detroit Edison's residential customers in 100-watt increments for just pennies a day. A new component of SolarCurrents is SolarSchools^SM in which ten schools will each receive 1.5 kilowatts of solar electric service and a renewable energy education program developed by Detroit Edison. Each school is sponsored by a local business, which pays the cost of the school's participation.
